Real places of Sagrada and Esperanza

This view shows where Charlie's Soho flat would be, although I don't think a building exactly as described with the roof terrace and four bedrooms actually exists today.

Japan appears only marginally in the book. Sonya's mother is Japanese. Sonya worked in Tokyo, and they visited family in rural Japan. The precise location is never stipulated, but I wonder if it might be Hokkaido or Tohoku region. This photo is Komagadake in Hokkaido. I'm sure Zed and Sonya would have visited here.
